The book, Boy Tales of Childhood is a beautiful collection of Roald Dahl’s childhood photographs, exciting experiences and letters to his mother. The reader is magically transported into Roald Dahl’s childhood because the book is written in an easy-to-read style that is humorous as well as haunting.
Interestingly, the book is not autobiographical, but written from memory. The fascinating fact that at 68 years of age he could recall so much from his childhood, has edged me to pen down my own experiences from now on itself because I’m not sure if at 68 my memory will match his! In fact, the book has inspired me to keep my childhood memories safe and sound in albums, CDs and on paper to cherish them when I grow old.
Yet another thing that touches the reader is the close knit family, the way the mother takes care of the whole family, the well planned journeys during holidays, which make it very interesting to read.
This book makes us realise how lucky we are to be born in these times when caning is not the way of maintaining discipline in schools and surgeries are not done without anaesthesia!
