I have read the book "Manorama-Tell Me Why On Metals" . The book takes you to the shining past, glorious present and radiant future of metals. It states that there is only one metal mercury that exists in liquid. Tungsten is the only metal that melts at 3410 degree Celcius. Lithium is a metal that is lighter than water. Osmium is the heaviest metal and a cubic foot of the same weighs 635 kg. It is also mentioned that bronze is a alloy that is produced by blending copper and tin. There is a beautiful statue of a drummer made by bronze. Brass is an alloy that is made by mixing zinc and copper. It is mentioned that 13,000,000 tons of copper is produced every year. Copper iron sulphate and copper oxide are the main ores from which copper is extracted. It is stated that the GREAT PYRAMID OF KHUFU was made from 2,300,000 stone blocks weighing 2.5 tons each. The final finish of the GREAT PYRAMID OF KHUFU was made possible using copper tools. Pure iron is actually quite soft! It is only when iron is mixed with other elements like carbon that it becomes hard and strong. The largest gold nugget ever found weighed 214.3 kg. 70 kg of pure gold was obtained from this nugget that was discovered in AUSTRALIA. Overall this book is very interesting and informative. It is a MUST READ for students aged 9-14 years.
